How to Support Our Family

As my husband's health struggles continue,  and the unknowns haunt us, we have found ourselves in need of support.

Our family is not receiving disability insurance or other benefits due to the insurance’s company decision to disagree with my husband's neurological condition and therefore, withdrawing his husband’s long-term benefits plan after two years, which ended in 2020.  We initially considered re-appealing the decision again, but the many changes created by the Covid pandemic and progression of his disease caused even more difficulties.

To be completely honest, our finances have been a constant strain over the years, which is something that is common amongst families with chronic illness and neurological conditions.  This is due to the high cost of medical bills, problematic symptoms directly related to these diseases, and daily living expenses in a young family under unordinary circumstances.

This summer, we faced an additional hardships as I was unexpectedly laid off from my full-time job due to operational cuts in June 2023.  While I am looking for a new job, hopefully in my field as a Child Life Specialist, this was the main source of our income as well as our health insurance coverage.

We were also able to move into a new rental home after learning ours was being torn down by our landlords, thanks to a true miracle and support form our community, we were able to stay in our daughter’s school zone.

To say that we are struggling is a huge understatement.  All of this is a lot, and there really are so many unknowns but we just have to keep going, one day at a time.

We really struggle with asking fro help, but know it’s needed so are beyond appreciate of anything anyone can do.

If you're interested in helping us out, here are some of the ways:

  • Gift cards for groceries (Jewel-Osco, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Target, Amazon, Aldi)

If you have never heard Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) or Lewy Body Dementia, please educate yourself on these devastating neurodegenerative diseases.  Your awareness is a very helpful way to support families like ours and become more empathetic to the struggles of those around you.

Thank you for your continued love, support, and prayers. 💜
